Two days are enough to get to know Lake Kerkini. The lake is about 95 km from Thessaloniki and 35 km from Serres. Here is an itinerary that combines water, nature and local flavours.

Day 1: the lake from the water

• Morning: a boat trip on Lake Kerkini at sunrise, for pelicans and herons.
• Lunch: local dishes made with buffalo milk and meat.
• Afternoon: a walk along the embankment and sunset over the lake.

Day 2: hiking, cycling and buffalo

• Morning: hike the forest trails on the eastern shore, or cycle around the lake.
• Midday: see the water buffalo herds.
• Afternoon: archery or horse riding before heading home.
